Tamil Nadu: During his state visit, Union Home Minister Amit Shah strictly criticised the ruling DMK government of Tamil Nadu.
The comments from Shah took place on Wednesday during his visit to the district for the opening of multiple BJP district offices throughout Tamil Nadu. Shah called out DMK figures for major corruption and poor governance, ridiculing them by stating their leaders "Masters in corruption” while detailing various scandals involving the party's officials such as bribery cases related to jobs, money laundering concerns, and illegal sand extraction practices.
Amit Shah as Union Home Minister representing the BJP and MK Stalin who serves as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu leading the DMK party. Shah accused those at leadership levels within DMK of both corrupt practices yet Stalin’s faction has openly critiqued Modi’s administration regarding financial support matters.
Shah responded directly to MK Stalin's statements claiming central funds had been withheld from Tamil Nadu. In contrast, he asserted that under Modi's rule Rs 5 lakh crore was granted to the state recently while dismissing Stalin’s assertions by evaluating fund distribution during previous UPA versus NDA administrations noting discrepancies favoring past performance under UPA as unjust.
Shah addressing subjects like corruption links back into broad strategies aiming towards expanding BJPs footprint across Tamil politics especially with announcements predicting their upcoming governorship come 2026 promoting a focus shift against nepotism plus disloyal activities toward India. The ambitions laid forth challenge ongoing influence maintained previously through respective regional factions including significant ones such as DMK operating within this political landscape.
